Republic Day parade - Indian Army Bike Stunt in Limca Book of World Records 2011

The Dare Devils of the Army revved up their bikes at the Republic Day parade on Wednesday and showed why they had five world records to their credit. Their stunning stunts included a 35-man human pyramid on a single motorcycle!

Over 100 Indian Army signalmen displayed breathtaking daredevilry on their well-tuned motorcycles at the Rajpath boulevard, raising the adrenaline flow of spectators, who couldn't stop themselves from shouting with enthusiasm.

Many held their breath as 35 of the men from the Corps of Signals formed a human pyramid on a single motorcycle - one of them carrying the national flag. The crowds spontaneously saluted the men!

People craned their necks to see Captain Ankur Deewan, who led the team, standing on a running motorcycle for more than half a kilometre.

As an announcement was heard asking people not to imitate the act as the Delhi traffic cops would levy a fine, the crowd burst into laughter. Delhi policemen men in the security wing also smiled.

The team is 45 years old. With five world records to their credit and six in the Limca Book of Records, the team has performed over 1,200 displays since 1965.

Among the first stunts to be showcased by the team, dressed in white and astride Enfield Bullet bikes, was the 'Rocket' formation which saw four signalmen on two motorcycles in a breathtaking display.

There was complete silence when 22 daredevils in lotus structure rode on two bikes.

World's Youngest Microsoft Professional World Record set by M. Lavinashree

M. Lavinashree has won the acclaim of being the youngest Microsoft professional by passing the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) Pro metric Examination with 842 marks out of 1000.

She says MCP exams measure the ability to perform specific, real world job functions or set of tasks.
They also deal with installing, configuring and administering Windows XP.

“I broke the world record set by a 10-year-old Pakistani girl, Arfa Karim Randhawa, as the world’s youngest MCP professional, as I am only eight years old,” she says in all innocence.

When she was in Std. II, she joined a one-year multi-media course that made her well-versed in animation, Corel Draw, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dream Weaver and Web Designing.

Muniyasamy wants to make her the youngest Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator.

“It comes naturally to her. She is playful and we don’t compel her into anything,” he says and adds that she begins her day at 6.30 a.m. and spends about two hours learning computers.

Lavinashree is in Std. IV at VMJ Higher Secondary School, Madurai.

World's Fastest Solar Powered Car set Guinness World Record 2011

FASTEST SOLAR POWERED CAR
A new world record was set yesterday as the students of The University of New South Wales managed to design and build the fastest solar powered car yet.

Achieving a high speed of a little over 88 km/h (54 miles/h), the UNSW's Sunswift IVy, powered only by silicon solar cells significantly topped the previous 1987 record of 79 km/h and was quick to make it into the Guinness World Book of Records.

The new record was set at 10:32 on the 7th of January at the HMAS Albatross navy base airstrip in Nowra. The Sunswift IVy, weighting only 1/10th of the weight of an average car and equipped with a 98% efficient
Brushless CSIRO 3 phase DC motor needs just 1300 watts of solar generated power to achieve it's estimated average speed of 85 km/h. That's approximately the same amount of energy a toaster needs for toasting two pieces of bread.

The drivers for this world record successful attempt were Barton Mawer and Craig Davis, professional racing drivers from the electric car firm Tesla European Operations. "We were confident. We only needed a little bit of sunshine and that was enough," declared Barton Mawer after the event.

The UNSW students invested 18 months in the 280.000$ Ivy project and the result will hopefully "spur a lot more interest in solar energy and the debate about renewable energy technology", said Daniel Friedman, Sunswift's project manager.

WORLDS LONGEST SEA BRIDGE IN CHINA

China has unveiled the world’s longest sea bridge, which stretches a massive 26.4 miles – five miles further than the distance between Dover and Calais and longer than a marathon.

The Qingdao Haiwan Bridge, completed earlier this week, links the main urban area of Qingdao city, East China’s Shandong province, with Huangdao district, straddling the Jiaozhou Bay sea areas.

World’s longest sea bridge 2011 - Qingdao Haiwan Bridge, China

The road bridge, which took four years and cost a cool £5.5billion to build, will be open for use in the New Year and is almost three miles longer than the previous record-holder, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana.

That structure features two bridges running side by side and is 23.87 miles (38.42km) long.

The three-way Qingdao Haiwan Bridge is a staggering 174 times longer than London’s Tower Bridge, over the Thames River – and shaves 19 miles off the drive from Qingdao to Huangdao.

Two separate groups of workers have been building the different ends of the structure since 2006.

One engineer commented: ‘The computer models and calculations are all very well but you can't really relax until the two sides are bolted together.

‘Even a few centimetres out would have been a disaster.’

With an overall length of 42.58km, the route between Qingdao and Huangdao will be shortened by 30km, cutting the travel time by about 20 minutes.

However, the colossal construction is set to hold the record as the longest sea bridge only for a few years – and it will be bettered by another Chinese bridge in the next decade.

Last December officials announced workers had begun constructing a bridge to link southern Guangdong province with Hong Kong and Macau.

youngest yoga trainer in the world.

AT JUST SIX,SHRUTI PANDAY IS THE YONGEST YOGA TRAINER IN THE WORLD.

At just six, Shruti Pandey is the youngest yoga trainer in the world.

The bendy youngster has been teaching adults at an ashram, in northern India, for the last two years.

Her trainer, Hari Chetan, 67, set up the ashram 35 years ago and as soon as little Shruti became one of his students, as a tiny four-year old, he spotted her talents.

Now she starts her classes at 5.30am every morning, at Brahmanand Saraswati Dham, in the Jhunsi town, dressed in white leggings and a red t-shirt surrounded by 30 eager pupils ranging from businessmen, teachers, housewives to pensioners.

Shruti said: 'It feels good when people follow my instructions, I feel like a real teacher.

'I got interested in yoga after seeing my brother do it. I tried picking it up myself but it was too hard. So I asked my parents to send me to yoga classes.'

Her brother, Harsh Kumar, now 11-years-old, made the Limca Book of Records at the tender age of five by learning all 84 yoga positions - but he's never been interested in being a teacher like his sister.

Hari, who Shruti also calls her grandfather, think she's a miracle.

'She's a fast learner and a perfectionist. She grasps techniques quickly unlike kids her own age, who get bored with something as patience consuming as yoga.

'Within just six months of her training, she surprised everyone by doing the toughest positions with ease and perfection. She's a natural.'

Shruti can manage some of yoga's most challenging positions. She can easily hold her entire body on the strength of her little arms and hang her legs right over her head backwards.

One of Shruti's fans, 90-year-old Swami Bhanu, a retired teacher, said: 'The best thing about Shruti is she tries to provide an alternative position for the complicated ones that are difficult for an older person like me to do. She's very patient.'

Businessman Lokendra Pal Singh, 48, has been attending Shruti's classes for three months and said, 'I have noticed a positive change in my life. I used to be short-tempered, but now I'm able to control my anger to quite an extent and it's all thanks to a little six-year old.'
